‘With Hearts Full of Love’: Rav Salomon On Homework and More

with-hearts-full-of-loveA mashgiach in a yeshiva has a special role to play. A successful mashgiach knows and understands his students: their fears and limitations, their potential and strengths. More: He knows their hearts.Rav Mattisyahu Salomon, shlita, the mashgiach of the famed Lakewood Yeshiva, knows the hearts of his thousands of students. And he knows the hearts of Jewish children everywhere-and he knows the hearts and minds of the parents who work so hard to raise them right.

When approached to have a book written based on his hundreds of audiotapes, the Mashgiach chose the subject of raising children in accordance with the Torah. With Hearts Full of Love is based on a series of lectures given on the topic to a hand-picked group of kollel members over the course of a year and a half. Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Reinman, who has learned with Rav Salomon for many years and who combines exceptional scholarship with brilliant literary ability, undertook the challenging task of adapting hundreds of hours of tapes into book form.

The result is a sefer that gives parents both principles and specific guidance in how to properly fulfill the mitzvah of chinuch, of raising and teaching our children; it is a book that teaches us how to instill in them the mesorah, the tradition handed down from Sinai.

Principles: The mashgiach shows how to instill love, how to create respect, and which of the two must come first. We learn how to discipline our children, how to teach them values and give them faith.

And specifics:

• Dealing with homework.

• Making the Shabbos table a positive and happy place.

• When, and how, to start teaching mitzvah observance.

• Finding the best-and identifying the worst-toys and games for children.

In the pages you will meet colicky babies, energetic toddlers, moody adolescents-and puzzled parents, trying to raise their children in an increasingly challenging environment. You will learn that in order to raise our children well, we must first raise ourselves up.

In today’s world, every parent needs a mentor-a wise, patient, and experienced person to help guide them to successful child-rearing. In other words, we all need the mashgiach to show us how to raise our children With Hearts Full of Love.

  1. And the end of all of it is – children will do what you do, not what you say.

You can talk yourself blue in the face, but the kids will look at how you live your life. The greatest lie-detector in the world is a ten-year-old child.

  2. let rabbi solomon stand on his own 2 feet without all this propoganda. those who want his advice should certainly seek it but dont give us this nonsense that “we all need the mashgiach to show us how to raise our children”

  3. This man is truly an international oracle with superhuman intuition and knowledge about things noone else can dream about. His years of calming and helping have imbued him with that rare power called ruach hakodesh.

  4. how about doing book reviews on Matzav. i think that a good place to start is this book or the very special bio ” a tale of two worlds”. perhaps one of the finest bios, in my opinion, ever published. absolutely phenomenal about reb Dovid and reb . basia bender and the tekufos they lived in.very choshuve piece of work by mrs. devora Gliksman.
