12 Arrested for Arson, Incitement as Fires Rage in and Out of Yerushalayim

Overnight, Israeli forces detained four Palestinians on suspicion of arson, which Israeli authorities suspect caused wildfires to raze through land across Israel for the third consecutive day.

Israel Police Chief Roni Alsheich confirmed the detentions in connection to the fires.

Israeli authorities say that the fires have been started by “political arson” against Israel.

So far, 12 people have been arrested for sparking or inciting at least some of the hundreds of fires that have threatened Israeli towns and forests this week.

Among them are six residents of the north, who the Shin Bet security agency and police believe are responsible for starting the devastating fires that ripped through Haifa.

600 homes have been destroyed in Haifa.
