A survey conducted by the Avshalom institute regarding the consumption of potatoes for the Yom Tov of Rosh Hashanah states that 61% of Israelis are buying potatoes at least once a week or more. Approximately 14,000 tons of potatoes, worth about 80 million NIS, will be sold for Rosh Hashanah according to the survey. This is an increase of 35% compared with current consumption of potatoes during the year’.
28% of Israelis noted when buying potatoes that the most important detail is the color of the potatoes. 24% said the most important thing is the size and 20% said the shape. Only 3.7% said the price is the most aspect to consider when buying potatoes.
47.6% indicated that they preferred red potatoes for the preparation of French fries, while 47.7% indicated that they preferred a white potato for baking and cooking.
50% prefer to buy loose potatoes in the market and 37.7% prefer to buy bagged potatoes in the supermarket or grocery store.
