toeivah parade (2)A 16-year-old girl who was stabbed during the Toeivah Pride Parade in Yerushalayim on Thursday died today after succumbing to her wounds, hospital officials said.

Shira Banki had been hospitalized at Ein Kerem in Yerushalayim in serious condition following the attack, in which five other people were stabbed as well.

One other person, Yarden Noy, was injured critically in the stabbing but has since recovered and is set to be released from the hospital in the coming days.

The other four people stabbed by Yishai Schlissel were lightly to moderately injured.

Yerushalayim Mayor Nir Barkat expressed deep sorrow over Banki’s murder, and vowed to protect the rights and security of all the capital’s residents.

“The murder at the….parade on the streets of Jerusalem is a criminal act, and we will not allow it to achieve its aim,” Barkat wrote in a press statement. “We will continue to provide full freedom of expression for each and every person in the city, we will continue to support all groups and communities in the city and at the [Jerusalem] Open House [for Pride and Tolerance], we will enhance the education on acceptance of others and tolerance in the school system and will not be deterred by the foul means of those who attempt to prevent it,” he added.

“We offer condolences to [Banki’s] family and continue to support the school community and her schoolmates.”

Schlissel carried out the attack three weeks after he was released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for perpetrating an identical crime a decade ago.

  1. A 16-year-old child has been murdered, leaving her parents and family bereft. I am sure her parents are just as heartbroken as are the parents of the three yeshiva boys, H”yd, murdered by terrorists last year. Her murderer should spend the rest of his life in a prison or mental hospital.

  2. I hope the chareidi / frum community shows the murdered girl’s family that they mourn with them and are totally revolted at this horrific evil act by a deranged individual. We don’t condone the extrajudicial execution of a child by a self-appointed kanoi whose actions horrify all of us. Comparing this monstrous act to Pinchos’s is a vile slur against against a tzadik. I can’t think of a bigger chilul Hashem than this butchery ostensibly committed in His name.

  3. #! Tragedy indeed. But how DARE you compare someone killed while engaged in chillul Hashem to Lehavdil those kedoshim HY”D who died Al kiddush Hashem?????

#2 I For one will not show the family support. It is already quite clear that NO chareidi support this meshugene who acted alone. Both chief Rabbis already condemned the act. His act is not a problem in our society- he is the only one- the same nut as 10 years ago. The toeva problem however seems to be a bigger one that more people are involved in

  4. Nowadays every troubled person with aggressive instincts who finds a ‘frum’ outlet for his violent nature is called a ‘kanoi’. We should really retire the term ‘kanoi’ and just call them what they are: thugs.

  5. Now his punishment in this world will surely be stronger. His punishment in the next world no one should be jealous of. Disgusting human being. Should have been put in cherem and sent away. Sheigetz! Rasha! Yimcha Shemo v’zichro.

  6. #3, “R’ Shlomo August 2, 2015 at 3:59 pm” Read comment #1 again. I couldn’t disagree more strongly with your seeming lack of rachmanos for the parents of a murdered child. #4, “AYid August 2, 2015 at 5:16 pm” Agree completely. Moshe Rabeinu by the eigel and Pinchas by Zimri were kanoim. This here is was the foul act of a rotzeich.

  7. I have full rachmanos for ANY parent that loses a child R”L, all the more so when a child is murdered. HOWEVER I will not support or sympathize the toeva MOVEMENT and the way they are trying to force it on the rest of the world.

Again with full sympathy for a bereaving parent, CHAS V’SHALOM!! to compare Tzadikim yeshiva students murdered al kidush Hashem ztzl, Hy”d. To someone killed during an act of chillul hashem!!!!!

To do that is in itself a backhanded support for the toeva
