Hundreds of woman and girls from all backgrounds gathered last night in Boro Park’s Young Israel Beth-El Shul in a show of solidarity and support of R’ Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin. Every seat was filled, and the standing-room-only crowd listened with rapt attention to the evening’s speakers.
The crowd heard words of Chizuk from the shul’s rov, Rabbi Moshe Snow, as well as from Rabbi Fischel Schachter and Rabbi Lipa Brennan.
Following the first part of the program, Mrs. Miriam Swerdlow took over as the emcee and introduced Mrs. Nissy Streicher, who recited Kapitel Chof of Tehillim and then introduced Mrs. Roza Hindy Weiss, daughter of Sholom Mordechai.
In a speech replete with choked cries, Roza told the crowd of her last year of traveling from city to city to raise the necessary funds for her father’s legal defense, living out of a large roller suitcase, and dealing with skeptics who only served to demoralize her. Roza Hindy had big thanks for Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz, Publisher of Yated Ne’eman, who contributed largely to making the event possible, and for allowing his newspaper to spread the true details of the case and raise the necessary awareness.
The event concluded with a recording of Mrs. Leah Rubashkin, wife of Sholom Mordechai, who shared a message with the crowd, thanking them for their support. She unfortunately was not able to attend in person.
Rabbi Lipschutz had been scheduled to attend and address the event, but had to cancel due to the flu.
