mark-rubioFlorida Sen. Marco Rubio is the top pick for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, with a narrow lead over other hopefuls, according to a poll out Thursday, while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nod.

Rubio was the top choice of 18 percent of Republicans surveyed, leading New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who took 14 percent, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who both clocked in with 12 percent support, according to a new poll from Public Policy Polling. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a 2008 GOP hopeful, was close behind with 11 percent support.

On the Democratic side, a whopping 61 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to see Clinton score the Democratic nomination for president in 2016. She was followed by Vice President Joe Biden, who was the pick of 12 percent, the same percent who said they were undecided or wanted some other candidate. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren were a distant fourth with 5 percent and fifth place with 4 percent, respectively.

The poll surveyed 454 Democratic primary voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.6 percentage points, and 475 Republican primary voters, with a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.
