Suspect Injured Baltimore ProtestIn the 30 days since Freddie Gray died following injuries sustained in police custody, 34 people have been murdered in Baltimore, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The city has seen more than 160 non-fatal shootings, a 60 percent increase from this time last year, and a 40 percent jump in homicides. Most of the latter happened in the Baltimore Police Department’s Western district—the same area where Gray was arrested.

“What we’ve seen over the past few weeks will not be tolerated,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “I want to assure the community that every available resource will be utilized to make our community safer.” Read more at The Baltimore Sun.

  1. This happens all the time here in Baltimore but nobody cares unless it involves the police- then it becomes a police/race thing. Blacks are always shooting each other. Every day there are shootings but it doesn’t make news because it happens all the time and it’s between the same race. The Mayor needs to put more effort into getting rid of the gangs and drugs and start getting people in the inner city to be more productive. Instead of Michelle Obama focusing on what our children eat in school she could have focused her energies on restoring family life and values into inner city communities. Can you imagine what her legacy could have been had she chosen to campaign on this issue.
