pearl harbor ww2The remains of 36 Marines killed in a bloody World War II battle returned home this weekend, with a ceremony at Pearl Harbor held in their memory. The Marines—most of whom are still unidentified—came from the Pacific atoll of Tarawa, where Japanese forces held out for three days in a bloody battle at the end of the war. More than 1,020 U.S. service members died there, and 520 are still unaccounted for.

Mark Noah, the civilian instrumental in bringing home the bodies, which experts will now try to identify, has been named an honorary Marine. Read more at ABC News.
