SUPREME COURTFour of the nine justices currently sitting on the Supreme Court will be at least 82 years old by the time the next presidential term ends on Jan. 20, 2021, according to the birthdays published in their biographies on the Supreme Court website.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the oldest justice, was born in 1933 and is now 82 years old. On inauguration day in 2021, she will be 87.

Justices Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy, both born in 1936, will be 84—or two years older than Ginsburg is now—on inauguration day in 2021.

Justice Stephen Breyer, born in 1938, will be 82 on inauguration day in 2021.

Justice Clarence Thomas, born in 1948, and Justice Samuel Alito, born in 1950, will be 72 and 70 on inauguration day in 2021.

That means–if the current Supreme Court roster remains in place–six of the nine justices serving when the next presidential term expires will be at least 70 years old.

The three justices who would not yet have reached age 70 by the time the next presidential term ends are Justice Sonia Sotomayor (who was born in 1954 and will be 66 on that day), Chief Justice John Roberts (who was born in 1955 and will be 65 on that day), and Justice Elena Kagan (who was born in 1960 and will be 60 on that day).

As of now, the average age of the nine justices is 69.4 years. If the same nine are still on the court on Jan. 20, 2021, their average age will be 74.4 years.

  1. Let’s hope our next CONSERVATIVE President gets to put on 3 or 4 CONSERVATIVE Justices that should turn this country around somewhat…
