500 London Police to Wear Cameras


london-policeBeginning today, London’s police force will use smartphone-sized cameras attached to their uniforms while on the job. “Body-worn video will not only help us fight crime and support victims but help the Met to be more accountable … people are more likely to plead guilty when they know we have captured the incident,” said Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe. “That speeds up justice, puts offenders behind bars more quickly and protects potential victims.”

The cameras will not be permanently switched on. The U.K is notorious for its surveillance activities. Last July, up to 5.9 million closed-circuit television cameras were in operation. Read more at Metropolitan Police.
