waterMayor Bill de Blasio is offering a $115 water bill credit to nearly 52,000 New York City residents as part of the Home Water Assistance Program.

The program is designed to help disabled, poor and elderly homeowners.

Those eligible for the program do not have to sign up to receive the credit. It will appear in their next bill.

Mayor de Blasio and Environmental Protection Commissioner Emily Lloyd spotlighted the credit Thursday. It was included in the city Water Board’s rate plan adopted earlier this year.

It’s part of the Home Water Assistance Program, which de Blasio’s administration introduced last year.

NBC reports that about 12,500 homeowners qualified for the credit last year. Now, the city is expanding it to include all homeowners qualified for the Federal Home Energy Assistance Program or for property tax exemptions for senior citizens or the disabled.
