German police said at least nine people were killed and as many as 150 others were injured when two passenger trains collided head-on in Bavaria early Tuesday.

Nearly 50 of the people who were wounded suffered “severe” injuries, police said. The crash happened at Bad Aibling, a town about 37 miles southeast of Munich.

One of the trains derailed in the accident and several carriages were overturned, according to local reports. Officials are still investigating to determine how the two trains could have collided on a single rail line. Read more at CNN.
