It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Ms. Naomi Adir a”h. She was 98.

Naomi was a remarkable person who devoted untold sums of money to yeshivos and mosdos hachinuch throughout her lifetime.

Naomi worked for many years as a public school teacher and resided in a humble apartment in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, where she originally lived with her parents. Her humble abode was exceedingly simple and she never thought of spending her money to renovate it. Nor did she spend money on herself, such as for clothing or accouterments. Instead, she took her earnings and life savings and donated money to Jewish organizations in a magnanimous fashion.

Making Naomi’s generosity more impressive was that she faced tremendous challenges. She was visually impaired and her eyesight became progressively worse, until she was virtually blind.

Even after retiring at age 60, Naomi continued to educate and inspire by speaking to school groups and others about what it means to be blind and how to relate to blind people in a proper manner.

While Naomi’s eyesight was poor and she was immobile toward the end of her life, she was sharp and with it, and demonstrated a freshness for life for which she was so loved and revered.

Naomi always exuded positivity and joy, and maintained a youthful spirit throughout her life. She was a mokir rabbonon and a machzik Torah par excellence, leaving a legacy for all to emulate.

Chinuch Atzmai, Bais Medrash Govoah, and Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin are three of the dozens upon dozens of mosdos that were beneficiaries of Naomi’s largesse.

The walls of her apartment are adorned with dozens of awards and plaques, testaments to her philanthropy and selflessness.

The levayah will take place tomorrow morning, Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., at Kehila Chapels, located at 60 Brighton 11th Street in Brooklyn, NY.

Yehi zichrah boruch.

  6. Naomi A”H was my friend for thirty years. I still miss her warmth and encouragement. She gave me wonderful insights and advice in my role as a pre-school teacher. Yes, she was generous, lived so simply and valued Torah above all. She loved her family and friends dearly and did not take revenge on those who wronged her. I will always miss her.
