yerushalayim[Video below.] Democrats today reinstated language in their party platform recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but only after an unclear vote in which as many delegates appeared to oppose the change as support it.

The party also added the word “God” back into the party’s decree, following criticism that it did not include the word at all.

The additions were approved by a voice vote that seemed to split the crowd evenly and confused Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was leading the proceedings.

Villaraigosa looked around the stage and appeared uncertain over how to proceed after an initial vote, in which the “nays” to adding Jerusalem and God back into the platform sounded just as loud as the “ayes.”

Villaraigosa called for a second vote with similar results. He then called for a third voice vote, and while it sounded evenly split, he proclaimed that two-thirds of the delegates approved the changes, which sparked some grumbling in the audience.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the platform was changed to reflect Obama’s views.

“The platform is being amended to maintain consistency with the personal views expressed by the President and in the Democratic Party platform in 2008,” the Florida congresswoman said in a statement. “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.”

The party reinstated language from its 2008 platform to get the word ‘God’ into the 2012 platform. The new language states: “we need a government that stands up for the hopes, values and interests of working people and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

After the convention agreed to alter the platform, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland explained the two amendments.

“As an ordained United Methodist minister, I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the values we’ve expressed in our party’s platform,” he said.

“In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and our party’s platform should as well.”

Republicans had criticized Democrats for not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in the document. And after the change, Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign knocked Democrats for a “begrudging recognition” of Jerusalem.

“Although today’s voice vote at the Democratic National Convention was unclear, the Democratic Party has acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement. “President Obama has repeatedly refused to say the same himself. Now is the time for President Obama to state in unequivocal terms whether or not he believes Jerusalem is Israel’s capital.”

Republicans also had criticized Democrats for not including the word “God” in the platform.

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan in a Wednesday appearance on Fox News said, “I guess I would just put the onus and the burden on them to explain why they did all this, these purges of God.”

  1. To any Jew who had any doubt that the Democrats HATE G-D & Jews, here is your proof! Like Rabbi Avigdor Miller ZT”L said, it’s Assur to vote for the Democrats!

  2. If you watch the video, you will see that they did not have the votes to support the motion, but after trying for three times, gave up, and passed it anyway, without the full 2/3 support that they needed.
Really proves that Democrats are hypocrites about democracy and God and Israel dispensable. For shame. I urge you to see the video of this “vote”.

  3. Every Frum Democrat politician should immediatly change parties, or forfit the opportunity to get an Aliyah in Shul! In other words, all Democrat politicians should be put in Cheyrem! If they have any fear of heaven at all, they should be ashamed to be associated with such an Anti Semitic/Anti Torah Party!

  4. The Democratic Party! delegates had to be dragged and possibly overridden in order to put G-d and Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel back into their platform, but no motion was even raised to restore the U.S. commitment to maintain Israel’s qualitative military edge over its enemies in the region and no motion to restore the condemnation and isolation of Hamas as a terrorist organization and no motion to restore the commitment to resettle legitimate “Palestinian refugees” outside of Israel. The Democratic party has apparently demonstrably been taken over by the Obama faction and its leadership to displace previously pro-Israel planks of the party, and has only now conceded on the highlighted issues of G-d and Jerusalem in order to quickly prevent further electoral erosion of the Jewish vote following Republican party media exposure of the patent policy discontinuities in the Democratic party platform. There is clearly a sudden hypocritical double-faced appeal for the vote of Jewish Americans concerned for Israel in order to be able to win the 2012 election, coupled with a high state of readiness to betray Israel following the election if R”L they prevail. Especially in light of what is going on between Israel and the Obama administration right now regarding Iran, the truth of these facts must be acknowledged and confronted by all concerned Jewish voters. If the Democratic Party does not change on all these crucial points before the election, then a vote for Obama would most probably constitute a vote against the most fundamental interests of Israel. All Jewish Americans should be aware of this even if they have always voted Democratic in the past. This situation is entirely new! Change it, or change your vote if it needs to be changed, and go vote!!! AL TA’AMOD AL DAM REACHA .

    America.

  5. This is a total ploy for the sake of propaganda as the KGB did in its heyday.

The democrats seem to have a most left wing

social policy and also unfortunately an anti-Israel policy.

However are affluent liberal co-religionists seem unaffected by all of this and they still wholeheartdly support the party financially and politically.

However there is not much hope or our values in such a radically left environment.

  6. If it wasn’t there l’chatchila, it means that, that’s what they REALLY hold! After realising that they lost alot of votes, they put it back – against thier own rules (2/3 votes?). It’s nothing but a PR stunt gone bad.
Let’s see our two chevra out of tfisa first.
Vote for Hussien/Biden? over my dead body!!!!
