Tragedy: 4 Dead at Fort Hood Shooting

fort-hood[Update below.] The military has confirmed that a shooting has occurred at Fort Hood in Texas and a spokesperson for the base told a local television station that at least one person is dead.

The base has ordered people to “shelter in place.”

The shooting occurred at approximately 4:25 p.m. Central Time.

Fort Hood is home to the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division and 4th Infantry Division. More than 40,000 soldiers are stationed at the base. On November 5, 2009, Maj. Nidal Hasan killed 13 and wounding 30 more at Fort Hood. Last year, he received the death penalty following conviction after a court martial. Read more at KBTV.

Update: Up to four people are dead, including the suspected gunman, and 14 others injured after the shooting at Fort Hood, according to Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas. McCaul, who is the chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, gave the casualty figures in a telephone conference with reporters.

An internal Justice Department report obtained by the Associated Press said that the shooter died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Earlier in the afternoon, President Obama spoke about the situation, saying, “We don’t yet know what happened tonight but obviously that sense of safety has been broken once again. We need to find out exactly what happened.”

  1. And they still wont allow the soldiers to walk around with guns on that base!!! Liberals will have us all killed!

  2. And look at eretz yisroel. All those in the armed forces must walk around with a gun and I don’t recall a case where an israeli soldier suddenly started shooting other soldiers or people.
