‘Amar Bill’ Buried

The so-called “Amar bill” was defeated this afternoon after it became clear that Chacham Ovadia Yosef opposed the legislation.

Rav Yosef instructed Shas MKs that although he would have liked to see Rav Amar reelected as Sephardi chief rabbi, he could not support Habayit Hayehudi’s demand that Rav Amar back Rabbi David Stav for the position of Ashkenazi chief rabbi.
