American Torah Community Prepares for Visit of Rav Baruch Soloveitchik

rav-baruch-soloveitchik-smallThe Ir HaTorah of America has forged an especially tight bond with Lev L’Achim. Ever since Maran Rosh HaYeshiva, Rav Aharon Kotler Zt’l galvanized the Olam HaTorah in support of the original P’eylim and the subsequent efforts to ensure a Torah education for all the children of Eretz Yisroel, the Lakewood name has been synonymous with the mission of the Bnai Torah of Eretz Yisroel to bring our Nation home to Torah U’Mitzvos.

The rallying point of this annual drive is the massive P’eylim / Lev L’Achim Asifa which is regularly held in Bais Faiga Hall. Year after year the Gedolei Torah of Eretz Yisroel have done for Lev L’Achim what they do for no other cause. The usual limitations they put on public appearances are set aside as they extend themselves beyond all bounds to help rally the Olam HaTorah on behalf of the P’eylim movement.

Who will ever forget the excitement in 1998 when Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman made his first historic visit to Lakewood to launch PROJECT RISHUM? In subsequent years, thousands of Bnai Torah in Lakewood were thrilled to experience the feeling of sitting at the table of a Gadol HaDor as they viewed live satellite transmissions from the homes of Rav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv, Rav Michel Yehudah Lefkovits, Rav Nissim Karelitz and Rav Chaim Kanievsky.

Outstanding luminaries of the Torah world such as Rav Moshe Schapiro, Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein, Rav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein and Rav Chezkiyahu Mishkovsky have participated in the annual Lakewood event. Two years ago, the renowned Gaon, Rav Yisroel Elya Weintraub, traveled to America for the sole purpose of addressing the Lev L’Achim Asifa. His penetrating shmuessen shed a new light on the world of machshava while opening our eyes as well to the significance of Lev L’Achim’s work.

Last year, Lakewood was electrified with the arrival of Rav Dovid Cohen, Rosh Yeshivas Chevron. The opportunity to see and hear this renowned star of the Torah world in Eretz Yisroel was a treat for the thousands who participated in the actual Lev L’Achim Asifa and at the shiur delivered the next day in Bais Medrash Govoah.

The excitement is mounting as Lakewood counts down the days till the arrival of Rav Baruch Soloveitchik, Rosh Yeshiva Toras Zev in Yerushalayim.

A son of the famed Rav Moshe Soloveitchik of Switzerland, Rav Baruch learned in Ponevez and became a maggid shiur in Lucerne while yet a bachur. He moved to Yerushalayim upon his marriage to the daughter of Rav Chaim Sarna and later became a Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Chevron – Geula. A long time chavrusa of Rav Dovid Cohen, Rav Baruch is acknowledged as one of the rising stars of the olom haTorah.

Despite his innate hatznea leches and abhorrence of the limelight, Rav Baruch -who has never before addressed an audience in America- acceded to the request of Rav Shteinman and the other Gedolei Yisroel to represent them as the special guest at this years P’eylim / Lev L’Achim Asifa in Lakewood on Sunday evening, July 12th.

The tradition of partnership between the Bnai Torah of Eretz Yisroel and America will once again be celebrated as Lakewood welcomes a true prince of the Torah world and unites in the effort to help our wayward brethren in Eretz Yisroel find their way back to Torah U’Mitzvos under the auspices of P’eylim / Lev L’Achim.

  1. I have heard from Israeli friends that the olom hatorah there looks upon Rav Baruch Soloveitchik, together with his chaver Rav Dovid Cohen of Chevron, as the future “manhigim” of Klal Yisroel.

Does anyone know if the Rosh Yeshiva will be speaking anywhere besides Lakewood? I would love to see and hear him.

  2. He should talk about the damaging effect the diaper throwers have on kiruv efforts both in Israel and in America.

  3. Lev L’achim is an outreach organization geared towards inspiring assimilated Jews.
Yad L’achim is geared towards saving (often clandestinely) Jews from Shmad and marriage to Arabs.

  4. Yad L’Achim does a) KIRUV b) ANti-Missionary work c) PIDYON SHVUYIM wheras Lev L’Achim only does kiruv. The fact is that Yad L’Achim had eight shuls across Eretz Yisroel that are comprised of Yidden who were brought back to Torah through Yad L’AChim. Around 5 Years ago Yad L’Achim publishe dit’s list of 100 biys that they enrolled in Yeshivos including contact info from all( with permission). Yad L’Achim does real Avodas Hakodesh,

  5. Go to Eretz Yisroel, ask any Yid who does Peilus? They will tell you it’s Yad L’Achim. I have visited their offices , seen their amazing work. Rav Lifshitz , head of Yad L’achim has never taken one cent salary. Thats real leshem shomayim

  6. “”Who will ever forget the excitement in 1998 when Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman made his first historic visit to Lakewood to launch PROJECT RISHUM?””” this was done after Yad L’Achim published their list of “RISHUM 1000” Lev L’Achim’s project Rishum has never even come close

  7. Whether you call yourself “fact!”, “shmuli”, or “aaron from monsey”, the old adage of Abraham Lincoln remains true: You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time!

It has been fifteen years since Rav Shach advised the branches of Yad L’Achim to re-incorporate under the new name (Lev L’Achim) and new leadership.

The acomplishments of Lev L’Achim (especially after they merged with the American P’eylim organization) are historic. Tens of thousands of children brought to Torah; thousands of families helped to re-discover yiddishkeit; hundreds of teens from frum families helped to stay on the derech…and much more.

A few shakranim sending comments to a website cannot convince the tzibur that the thousands of Lev L’Achim workers do not exist. They cannot even convince most of the knowledgable public that what is now called “Yad L’Achim” is anything more than a PR group trumpeting the big news that R’ Sholom Ber Lifshitz wrote a letter to the pope or some similar narishkeit designed to make it look as if they are a BIG organization with national clout.

If Yad has some legitimate activity they are doing, wonderful! Just don’t exagerate it and try to convince the public that a handful of people are doing at Yad is comparable to what thousands are doing at Lev. You wouldn’t compare a Yeshiva with six talmidim to Chevron or Lakewood, why the need to compare Yad to Lev? The only answer that suggests itself is that Yad does not even have the six!

Ask yourself why none of the Gedolei Eretz Yisroel (not Rav Elyashiv, Rav Shteinman, Rav Chaim Kanievsky etc) endorse Yad while they go out of their way to associate themselves with Lev L’Achim doing things (appearing on live satellite hookups as mentioned in the above article)they do for almost no other cause.

Sheker ain lo raglayim! Yad will go the way of so many other charlatans. Let us just hope that their campaign of deceit does not hurt the amazing movement of Bnai Torah that we have come to love: P’eylim / Lev L’Achim.

  8. A Wise man once said “putting down someone els’s rebbe will not make your son love your rebbe more” Same thing here my friend. Again, I have been to Eretz Yisroel and seen first hand Yad L’Achim’s work. Ask anyone who lives in Eretz Yisroel about Yad L’Achim and you will get a straight answer. Noone said Lev L’Achim doesn’t exist. Kiruve is their forte. Yad L’Achim does that as well. Eight shuls around eretz yisroel full of yidden Yad L’Achim brought back to Torah! Lev L’Achim’s “project Rishum” was launched after Yad L’Achim published their list of “Rishum 1000” These are the facts. You are not bringing Kavod to a choshuve organization as Lev L’achim by lying and acuusing falsely with false info. Its sad to see you have to defend yourself against accusations noone made against yourself, guilty perhaps. There is old politics in this. However noone can take away what these organizations do. Rav Shmuel Wosner, Rav Ovadia Yosef, The Eidah Hachareidis, RAv Yechiel Michel Feinstein zt’l to name a few are considered “choshuve people in my books. They are gedolim. Its sad to see you bash.
