amnon-pizzaA 22-year-old pizza delivery man died after he was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver on a Brooklyn street today, cops and witnesses said.

Luis Torres was at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th St. on his bike delivering pies for Amnon Kosher Pizza when he was hit by a Budget box truck, police and family said.

The 25-year-old driver of the truck attempted to flee the scene of the 6:30 p.m. accident, but was apprehended by police a block away, cops said. He was expected to be charged Thursday night.

Torres was taken to Lutheran Hospital, but could not be saved.

His wife, Laura Campoberdecq, 19, was too distraught to speak.

“He was a good person,” said his uncle, Edgar Ingacq, 33. “My heart is too much in pain.”

Torres and his wife moved to Brooklyn from Ecuador two years ago to save money for their child, 2-year-old Kelly Denisse Inga.

  1. Prayers for Luis Torres and his wife. He was just going out about his work. Not an easy job being a pizza delivery person. I know it because I tried it when I was a student. (I hate job snobs.) Traffic can be very dangerous on many city streets throughout the world. Way too much manic driving.

Luis Torres was probably just trying to earn an honest living. The measure of a decent society is whether or not a man can earn enough in a full time, ethical position to provide for his wife and children. Put the even the most righteous of rats in too small a cage and they are liable to end up eating each other.
