Amtrak Opens Service Between NYC, Philly

amtrakAmtrak announced Sunday service between Philadelphia and New York City will resume beginning Monday morning, six days after a train derailed and killed eight people and injured 200 others. 

“Our infrastructure repairs have been made with the utmost care and emphasis on infrastructure integrity including complete compliance with Federal Railroad Administration directives,” said Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman in a press release.

Over the weekend, the train company announced it had installed speed controls, which forces trains to slow down, that will prevent future incidents from happening.

The toppled train, which is believed to have been hit by an object, was going 106 mph when it entered a curve and derailed. Read more at Amtrak.
