A shul at the community of Yitzhar in Samaria will welcome a new Sefer Torah this Sunday, dedicated to the eight talmidim at Yeshiva Mercaz HaRav in Yerushalayim who were murdered in a terror rampage in March 2008.
The identity of the donor is not known. All that has been made public is that the donor is a businessman who resides in central Israel, who decided to contribute a Sefer Torah for the neshamos of the students martyred in the savage terror spree. When the businessman learned that a shul in Yitzhar was missing a Tora, he decided immediately that he would be donating the Sefer Torah to that shul.

There’s an interesting Halacha related to Hachnosas Sefer Torah. One is not permitted to give a Sefer Torah to a Shul, Yeshiva, etc., in secret. When the Torah was given on Har Sinai, all of Klal Yisroel was present and participating. The Hachnosas Sefer Torah is a replication of Maamod Har Sinai and must be public and publicized.
