Just a day after Hillary Clinton ended her silence on the controversy over her private email usage, the Associated Press sued the State Department to force it to release her emails and government documents.

According to the AP, the move comes after multiple Freedom of Information Act requests have gone unfulfilled.

The requests and lawsuit are regarding correspondence between Clinton and top aides expected to take part in her presidential campaign, emails related to the Osama bin Laden raid, and the National Security Agency.

The State Department declined to comment, pointing instead to the large amounts of requests it gets. According to the lawsuit, since 2010 the AP has filed six requests that have either not been answered “substantively” or, in one case, only partially answered.

According to the AP, the State Department “as a matter of law” must release emails relating to official government business whether or not it comes from a personal or department account. Read more.
