mehlman-slash-carsBrooklyn, NY – Councilman David Greenfield thanked the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force and the 61 NYPD precinct for catching an individual who allegedly slashed the tires of as many as 100 cars on Motzoei Shabbos in the Midwood/Madison neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

“My deepest thanks to Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, Captain Mark Magrone of Hate Crimes Task Force and Deputy Inspector Carlos Valdez of Brooklyn’s 61 precinct for their outstanding work along with their respective teams in quickly catching the alleged criminal who caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to Brooklyn residents’ vehicles. This quick arrest proves once again that we truly have NYPD’s finest serving our neighborhoods and that goes a long way in calming the nerves of  the community. The message is very clear: New York City has zero tolerance for these quality of life crimes,” said Councilman David G. Greenfield.

Greenfield was the first to offer a $1,000 award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these crimes.

Over forty cars had their tires slashed in our neighborhoods,” stated Senator Simcha Felder. “Where is the police presence?”

“I am concerned that police officers from local precincts are being diverted to deal with the current protests – leaving our neighborhoods vulnerable and virtually unprotected. This cannot be tolerated. Not only do we need our local precincts fully staffed, we need additional police protection.”

“If necessary, the National Guard should be called out to deal with the protests,” Felder further stated. “The safety and security of all New York City neighborhoods must not be compromised for any reason.”

The Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition (FJCC) lauded the NYPD for the swift apprehension of the tire slashing perpetrator. According to the NYPD, all indications are at this point that this is an isolated incident and not a bias crime.

Working hand in hand with elected officials Senator Simcha Felder, Assembly Member Helene Weinstein, Councilman Chaim Deutsch in whose districts the crimes occurred, as well as Pinny Ringel of the NYC Mayors office and Flatbush Shomrim, the FJCC gave voice to the communities outrage and concern after the tires of over 50 vehicles were slashed in the Madison area of Flatbush, Saturday night.

Josh Mehlman FJCC Chairman, thanked Brooklyn South Chief Owen Monaghan, Brooklyn Chief of Detectives Patrick Conroy, 61-precinct commander Inspector Valdez and the Hate Crimes unit for their immediate response and efforts.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch stated “this shows once again how our community will not tolerate quality of life crimes and vandalism. This intolerable situation highlights the importance of reporting every crime to the Police and the value of the Police and community working together”

The NYPD 61st pct “thanked the community” for the enormous amount of information and cooperation that led to the apprehension.

  1. Number 1, you took the words “write” out of my mouth. The accused was appropriately apportioned with appreciative apprehension. Do we call it “apprehensioned”?
