boycott-israelLeaders of Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) voted Friday at the church’s biennial general assembly in Detroit to divest from Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola Solutions, all companies that do business with Israel, in a 310-303 vote.

B’nai B’rith International said in a statement that the vote means PCUSA has become “an active participant in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement” against Israel.

“As a humanitarian organization that has invested tremendous hope and extensive efforts worldwide in building Christian-Jewish friendship for 170 years, we remain confident that such an approach does not reflect the values and perspectives of the vast majority of American Christians,” B’nai B’rith said.

Rabbi Noam Marans, the American Jewish Committee’s director of interreligious and intergroup relations, said PCUSA leaders are “facilitating the delegitimization of Israel in the guise of helping Palestinians.”

At the 2012 Presbyterian general assembly, an Israel divestment resolution narrowly failed in a 333-331 vote.

  1. These organizations (BB, AJC) are an embarrassment. Why not compile lists of Presbyterian-controlled companies and lead a boycott of them. Their profit-fixation is stronger than their longstanding anti-Semitism.

  2. It’s shameful that Jews will continue to support the Presbyterian charities such as their hospitals. They ought be taught in the language they’ll clearly understand! Additionally I would love to see more Jewish investment in Caterpillar, HP and Motorola simply as a response to the shameful decision.

  3. Many physicians who head departments in their hospitals are Jews as are employees in other areas

As Hashem controls all this(Beis Haleyvee on Chumash, Parshas Shmos, Kol Dodi on Chumash, Parshas Lech Lecha);we have to await how this plays out.

  4. “I would love to see more Jewish investment in Caterpillar, HP and Motorola ”

I think we need a campaign to promote just this. Who will step up and lead one?

  5. Did any of you even bother to find out why they are divesting from Israel? It is because of Israel’s pro-toeiva position. Maybe all religious Jews should have divested from Israel a long time ago!

  6. I’m frustrated with hypocrisy of elca & pcusa. I left elca because of their criticism / boycott of Israel years ago. Strange neither they nor presbyterian church of US speak out on atrocities committed against girls, women or their fellow Christians in other mid-east countries or Africa – that wouldn’t be politically correct enough for them. Not all Presbyterian or Lutheran denominations hate Israel.
Good news is these are gaining members & elca & pcusa are losing – dramatically. May they & their hypocrisy go away in my lifetime.
