snow1If you haven’t dug out your car from the ice and snow of the recent snowstorms, you’d better dig out fast. Parking rules go back into effect today.

Many vehicles in the city were permanently parked, encased in thick layers of ice and snow. Now, they’ll have to be moved, reports CBS 2′s Dave Carlin.

The thought of digging out their cars has many New Yorkers in the grips of alternate-side anxiety.

In Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, sisters Donna and Carolyn Frazier spent more than an hour chipping away at ice until they could see their tires – for the first time in weeks.

“It’s hard as a rock. That’s why we’ve got metal shovels – our neighbor took pity and gave us a shovel,” Donna said.

“I was complaining about alternate side being back on, but it was pointed out to me that’s the only way they’re going to be able to clean it up completely, because there’s still stuff left from the 27th of December,” Carolyn said.

In Park Slope, it became a race against time for Daniel McAdams.

“I don’t want to wake up tomorrow and do it, so you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,” he said. “I’m hoping we can get it out.”

“They’re cleaning the streets, so what are you going to do? We’ve got to get it out now,” Park Slope resident Johanna Lafferty said.

Not the least bit worried was Megin Devir, who strolled with her kids past ice-covered cars, very glad that she doesn’t own one.

“A stroller is challenging enough,” she said.

It was a lot of back-breaking work for many in the Tri-State, but they had to take care of it – or they would have been waking up to a parking ticket.
