ou-rav-belsky-rav-schechterLeadership from the OU Kashrus Department will be addressing halacha and OU kashrus policy at its first shiur in Boro Park on Sunday, January 30, at 7:30 p.m. Agudas Yisroel Zichron Moshe, located at 1561 50th Street. As part of The Harry H. Beren ASK OU Outreach Program, the evening’s event will feature “Current Issues in the Kashrus of Fish,” and a panel of “Ask the Rabbonim.”

Due to limited seating, this event is for men only. Admission is free. A free computer disc “How To Kasher” with demonstrations by kashering expert Rabbi Moshe Perlmutter will be distributed.

As with all ASK OU programs, the event is sponsored by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of Lakewood. NJ. Other successful Harry H. Beren ASK OU educational programs have taken place in many communities throughout the country such as Lakewood, Monsey, Passaic, Los Angeles, Flatbush, Queens, Far Rockaway/Five Towns and New Haven.

This is the first time that the ASK OU program is to take place in a community where heimishe hashgochos are widely used by the kosher consumer. Under the leadership of OU President Dr. Simcha Katz, former Chairman of the OU Kosher Commission, the OU is reaching out to these communities.

“The image of the OU Kashrus leadership, together with other religious and lay leadership walking and sitting together is a strong statement promoting achdus,” declared Dr. Katz, quoted in Ami Magazine, following a recent tour of KJ Poultry together with the Satmar Rebbe of Monroe Rav Aharon Teitelbaum, Shlita. “We need to keep forging these types of bonds and continue extending our tent cover into multiple camps, keeping in mind that though we may not agree on all aspects of hashkafa with every camp, there is so much more that we have in common with Acheinu B’nai Yisrael.”

Answering questions on halacha and OU policy at 8:30 p.m. will be OU posek Rav Yisroel Belsky; Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher; and Rabbi Moshe Elefant, COO of OU Kosher. OU Rabbinic Coordinator and fish expert Rabbi Chaim Goldberg, will lead the opening session.

Questions for the rabbinic panel, such as “What is the relationship between OU Kosher and heimishe hashgochos?” and “Why does the OU not use Shechitah Munaches?” will be accepted prior to the event. Priority will be given to questions sent via email to [email protected] or faxed to (212) 613-0621.

For further information, contact Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Director of OU Kosher Education, at (212) 613-8212, (914) 391-9470, or email [email protected].
