In a rare speech in Damascus, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stood before a collage of images of the war’s victims, acknowledging the nation’s suffering.
The embattled leader also pitched a peace plan made of a national reconciliation conference and a new government and constitution-though he said that such talks are only open to “those who haven’t betrayed Syria” and the organized opposition within the nation. As usual, he called for Syrians to fight back against the foreign-lead, criminal rebels.
