Assad Using Chemical Weapons Again

Aid workers have accused the regime of Bashar al Assad of deploying chemical weapons against civilians in attacks this spring. Workers say the number of attacks using less-lethal chlorine bombs in contested areas, like Idlib province, has increased dramatically. Residents report “burning” sensations in their lungs and other ailments.

While the Assad regime denies such allegations through state media, the U.S. is pushing for a UN panel to investigate such charges.

Assad said he dismantled the country’s chemical weapons program two years ago. Read more at The New York Times.
