Great comment, but we don’t Pasken like the Meieri.
It’s not so simple, for a Rebbeh to explain to young Talmudim, Why? and How could it Be? and Where is the Yashrus to Briot of HKB”H? But that’s how it is.

According to the Me’eiri, even if the Taxi driver or owner were not Yidden, we must return the Aveidu to them. Even in a situation that there wil not be a Kiddush or Chillul Hashem.
The Me’eiri holds that all the Halochos that exclude the Umos Ho’olom from, Hashovas Aveidu, To’os Akim, Prias Halvo’osoi, Shoit Shenogach Shoiroi, etc., only apply to the Umos of the ancient civilization who behaved like savages to each other.
L’choira, today, it would be an Issur, to exclude them from the Dinei Mommoinus.
