rav-yisroel-reisman2[Audio below.] The following is a shiur delivered by Harav Yisroel Reisman, maggid shiur in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and mara d’asra of Agudath Israel of Madison. The shiur, on Parshas Vayigash, was delivered to Rav Reisman’s alumni over the telephone. Rav Reisman makes a strong effort to keep in touch with all his talmidim even after they have left the yeshiva. His weekly teleconference is one that many of his talmidim look forward to each week. Matzav.com is proud to feature the shiur exclusively each week.

  1. The answer to the question regarding Yaakov’s female grand-children.
Besides Yocheved who was a baby, and Serach who was deaf, all other female grand-children were married and stayed with their husbands in Eretz Cnaan. Just like all male decendants brought along their respective wives.
    This is Psheitei Shel Mikroh.

  2. I respectfully disagree with Rabbi Reisman’s answer about “LiKro ess HaHallel”.

One cannot make a Brocho on a Mitzva on which he is not metzuva NOW (since one has to say the whole Hallel today), although on another day he would say “half” Hallel with a Brocho.

It is like saying Bircas Hamazon without “Rezei” on Shabbos for a person who does not know the wording of “Rezei”.
He literally would say 4 brochos levatolo, since on Shabbos he does not fulfil his Mitzvo without saying “Rezei”.
According to Rabbi Reisman he should still say Bircas Hamozon in any event, even without Rezei, since during the week this is a proper way of saying Bircas Hamozon.
I am aware that not saying any Bircas Hamozon at all is a problem of a “Bitul Mitzvas Asse DeOraisso”. Still, a Bircas HaMozon on Shabbos without saying Rezei would be contrary to the Matbea she tov’u Chachomim.
