Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said an emergency citywide curfew largely held Tuesday night, despite scattered pockets of clashes with crowds after it took effect at 10 p.m.

Police arrested 10 people during the unrest, mostly for curfew violations, according to Batts. “The biggest thing is that citizens are safe. The city is stable. We hope to maintain it that way,” he said.

A group of three to four juveniles were earlier arrested after rocks were thrown at officers, injuring one. No additional information on the injured officer was provided.

Police deployed pepper balls at a crowd on the city’s northwest side after a fire was started near a library.

Batts said authorities had attempted to use smoke, but the wind was blowing it back on officers. The national guard was deployed overnight to secure the area. Read more at NBC News.
