un-secretary-general-ban-ki-moonUN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon announced last night that the organization will establish a special investigative team to examine the circumstances of the attack on the UNRWA school during Operation Protective Edge. He said the team will examine why the IDF hit the organization’s facilities and whether Hamas used them to store weapons.

According to the United Nations, during the operation, thousands of buildings in the Gaza Strip were destroyed and more than a hundred thousand people were left homeless. “I look forward to a thorough investigation by the Israel Defense Forces of this and other incidents in which UN facilities sustained hits and many innocent people were killed,” Ban Ki-Moon said during the monthly meeting of the Security Council held regarding the Middle East.

“I am planning to move forward with an independent board of inquiry to look into the most serious of those cases, as well as instances in which weaponry was found on UN premises,” the UN Secretary General added. In an announcement of the organization, they stated that the establishment of an investigation team is “a routine procedure in the case of damaged property or facilities of the United Nations.”

In addition to the UN investigation, Israel has already started an investigation of five different events that occurred during the operation. These cases are under review, two of which were widely covered by international media: the death of four Palestinian children on a beach in Gaza, and another case which killed 17 people from an attack on a UN school.

  1. Sounds like Bonkers Moon has already condemned Israel without a hearing. So much for a fair and impartial inquiry.
Time for the UN to be disbanded and Bonkers to go back to Korea.

  2. I don’t intend to defend this idiot at all, but your headline is incorrect. He seems to have said, based on the quote in the article, that he looks forward to a thorough investigation BY Israel. Not OF Israel.
Pretty big difference when you think about it.

  3. How surprising? (ha, ha). It really bothers them that there is no blemish or wrong to be found in Israel, so maybe if they ‘investigate enough’, they will find something ‘real’ to blame Israel with – truth and evidence is not needed, of course. Isn’t the reason for their existence to villify Israel?
