President Barack Obama headed out on the road Wednesday still glowing from the latest Obamacare numbers and set his sights on congressional Republicans still working to obstruct his agenda.

The House GOP’s new budget proposal and efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act “should be familiar because it was their economic plan in the 2012 campaign, it was their economic plan in 2010,” he said at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Clearly in a good mood a day after announcing that at least 7.1 million Americans had signed up for health insurance through ACA exchanges, Obama followed up one punchline with another. “If they tried to sell this sandwich at Zingerman’s they’d have to call it the Stinkburger or the Meanwich,” he said, referring to the local restaurant where he stopped for lunch before his arrival on campus.

Though the focus of Obama’s trip was to pressure Congress to vote to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, it also gave him a chance to celebrate the health care numbers in a more casual, campaign-like atmosphere than the one the Rose Garden of the White House afforded him less than 24 hours earlier, and to frame his health care argument going forward. The 7.1 million total, he said, referring to the Wolverines’ football stadium, is “enough to fill up the Big House 65 times.”

Republican do have “one original idea” and that’s to repeal Obamacare “because they haven’t tried that 50 times,” the president said to laughter. “Fifty times they tried to do that,” he added, raising his voice incredulously.

  1. That’s how the Liberals do it: They don’t listen; rather, from their lofty throne, they simply trash the ideas of the opposition and dismiss them as out of hand.

Great way to cultivate bipartisanship, no?
