ehud-barakWith the departure of Kadima from the coalition government, and despite protests from the chareidi camp, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said today that he feels that chareidim will be subject to a mandatory draft come August, at which time the Tal Law expires.

With Kadima head Shaul Mofaz officially announcing Kadima’s vote to break up the coalition, the government is headed down the path toward conscription of yeshiva students.

“Over the next three months,” Barak said in a statement, “the Defense Ministry will put together a temporary proposal which will demand equality regarding the military burden. This will be in effect until permanent legislation is formulated as a complete response to the matter.”

  1. Barak, don’t you have enough soldiers to destroy Jewish homes? Instead of trying to get chareidim to help you, why don’t you draft those 70% draft dodgers residing in Tel Aviv? They don’t learn Torah and don’t care how secular, immoral and corrupt the army is, and therefore have no excuse not to join the army.

By the way Barak, what else did the Israel Destruction Forces (IDF) accomplish since you became Destruction Minister?

  2. Who decided when this law expires? As far as we all know, the High Courtdid not give an expiration date. Anyone else to change its status is irrelevant.

  3. Shalom,

You don’t seem to know much about the Isralei legal and governmental systems.

With Mofaz leaving, the situation may now be worse for the Charedi community. In addition to the governmental process which is what Barak is applying to the deteriment of the community, people like Yair Lapid have been given a new lease on life while Bibi who in general has a positive attitude towards Charedim is made to look like someone who is abondoning the will of the ‘majority’ to appease a political voting block.

  4. This is what happens when you have a bunch of Pollaks like Binyomin Milokovsky (Netanyahu), Ehud Brog (Barak), and Ariel Scheinerman (Sharon), running a country.

  5. I love that comment by scher. This is what happens when you have a bunch polacks running the country. Wow that is original. And the old last names he is giving is so funny.
