Beer in Israel Among World’s Most Expensive

Making a shalom zachor can cost a pretty penny, at least in Eretz Yisroel.

Israel is one of the most expensive countries in the world for beer, according to Thrillist, which ranked countries on the basis of the average cost of a pint of local draft beer.

Globes reports that according to “Thrillist”, the average price for a pint in Israel is $6.96, with Tel Aviv as the most expensive city, where a beer is closer to $7.39.

As for Israel’s best beers, it says, “Suds worth your shekels: Israel’s recent wave of microbrews are where you should focus, starting with Salara Smoked – a high-scoring British-style stout. From there you can keep it dark with Negev’s full-bodied, oak-aged Porter Alon, or roll with something a little lighter like Alexander Green India Pale Ale, which’s brewed by a retired fighter pilot and described as a ‘hoppy IPA with a nose of grapefruit, guava, and mango’.”

Israel is more expensive than Switzerland, but cheaper than Iceland, Monaco, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland (“Thrillist” refers to the last four collectively as “Scandinavia”, which makes Israel the fourth most expensive country for beer in its rankings), according to Globes.

Globes says that “Thrillist” used crowd-sourced, cost-of-living site Numbeo.com to figure out which five destinations charge the most for a pint. It also provided RateBeer’s best-ranked beers by country.
