  1. An accident today on Rechov Pachad Yitzcok in Beitar Illit has claimed the life of one child and injured another.

Police indicate that the incident took place in parking lot that was being used for washing cars for Pesach. One of the workers, a sixteen year old boy, entered one of the vehicles and put it into reverse, hitting two young children.

The driver immediately fled the scene. Witnesses said that they knew who the driver was and a short time later the driver turned himself in at the scene of the accident.

The driver is a resident of Beitar Illit. He was arrested and the owner of the vehicle was detained. In addition, three witnesses were detained for questioning.

The two children who were hit had been sitting on a bench. The vehicle went in reverse, toward the sidewalk, and then went over the curb and into the bench, crushing the two children, a boy and a girl.

The girl’s mother ran to scene, screaming hysterically, “My girl!”

The four-year-old girl, Molly Bernstein, (pictured above) was found by Magen David Adom paramedics to be unconscious, without a pulse. She was given advanced resuscitation during the evacuation to the hospital, but passed away. She had suffered severe head injuries.

The boy was injured in his leg and also taken to the hospital.
