A Belarus judge okayed the construction of apartments on Jewish cemeteries in Gomel and Mozyr, JTA reported. Yakov Goodman, a Jewish-American activist for the preservation of Jewish heritage sites, said that bones of Jews would end up in city dumpsters.

This judge’s decision ignored an agreement made last year between Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makai and Lesley Weiss, chair of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, that each party would protect and preserve properties that represent the cultural heritage of all national, religious, or ethnic groups that reside or resided in its territory.

Before the document was signed, Belarusian authorities had already destroyed three shuls in Luban and the capital, Minsk, and at least two Jewish cemeteries.

  1. Well, that’s okay. The thousands of dummies who do the kever hopping tours, will continue unabated. Who cares what the local governments do or has done? Who cares how much Jewish blood flows thru the streets? Doesn’t matter. The cemetery hopping tours are a multi million dollar business. Plus it gives the laidigers something to do.
