Ben-Gurion Airport Briefly Shuts Down As Sandstorm Worsens

israel sandstormA heavy haze led to disruptions at Ben-Gurion International Airport today. Ben-Gurion was closed today for a short period of time for take-offs due to the difficult weather conditions.

At 6 p.m., take-offs resumed, but 5 out of 11 flights were delayed.

Earlier today, Dov Airport in Tel Aviv was closed down for both take-offs and landings.

The air pollution was significantly worse in Central Israel. Ariel also had significant air pollution.

This morning, the level of air pollution was four times higher than average. By noon, it was 67 times higher than average. The haze is expected to be gone or diminished by tomorrow, Jerusalem Online reports.
