Yesterday, Israel’s Airports Authority began a pilot version of its new “self-check” automated security system for passengers traveling overseas. The UNI-PAS system works according to biometrics, allowing interested passengers to avoid the long lines currently experienced at Ben Gurion Airport.Airports Authority Director General Kobi Mor said the new system was intended to make security checks more effective and to serve as an alternative to the question-answer method currently in place.
In order to join the system, passengers would need to sign into the system and provide biometric identification, after which they will receive a smart card to enable fast check-in during future travels.
The pilot system is now being tested on a group of El Al frequent flyers.
