bidenVice President Joe Biden expressed regret today for using the word “Shylocks” during a speech earlier this week. Many consider the term, which refers to the Jewish villain in Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, to be offensive.

Biden made the comment while talking to the Legal Services Corporation during a story about his son Beau.

“People would come to him and talk about what was happening to them at home in terms of foreclosures, in terms of bad loans that were being – I mean, these Shylocks who took advantage of these women and men while overseas,” he said.

Today, Biden said it was a “poor choice of words” and that it was “right” for Jewish groups like the Anti-Defamation League to call him out. Read more at The Hill.

  1. Rule #1:

    Open mouth, insert foot!
Joe is the gift that keeps on giving!
I hope he runs for President in 2016. The Country needs a good belly laugh.

  2. The only smart move Obama made is taking Biden as a vp. Pure protection. No one would assassinate or impeach Obama because then you have Biden. Hard to say which is worse.

  3. Oh right. Biden is a Democrat, so come on, don’t take things so seriously. He misspoke. no harm done. BUT IF A REPUBLICAN MADE THE SAME STATEMENT, THE WORLD WOULD END AS WE KNOW IT! Round the clock media coverage. Calls for impeachment. Lawsuits. Etc… Talk about a double standard.

  4. Biden has a long, long track record of being very pro-Israel and a friend of Jews. I think he deserved to be told about his gaffe privately rather than be called out on it.

  5. Dumb Biden mistake like all the others. That’s all. Nothing to get bent out of shape about. Except for the belly laught that Comment #1 mentioned.

  6. I am a Jew.
Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as
a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not
    revenge?….
