Bill de Blasio, the New York City Public Advocate, has declared that he’s running for mayor of New York City. The announcement came today outside his home in Brooklyn’s Park Slope.
The Democrat’s slogan is: “We only succeed if we leave no New Yorker behind.” The 51-year-old candidate is seeking to replace outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in November.
The field of candidates includes City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Bill Thompson, a former city comptroller – both Democrats – and Republican Joe Lhota, former chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
