Black Friday: Expert Shares Tips For Saving Big

Mark LoCastro from DealNews.com shared some tips for scoring the best savings on Black Friday.  

LoCastro said having a plan before hitting the stores is important.

“You have to make a shopping list,” he said. “You have to budget. Know what you’re shopping for, and know what those things typically cost, because then, if you’re shopping in-store or shopping online, if it price drops, you know you’re getting a real deal.”

LoCastro also suggested that shoppers do their homework – and make sure they take advantage of technology.

“You don’t have to go into the store to get the Black Friday deals,” he said. “The majority of the Black Friday deals are available online at the same price and sometimes cheaper. But if you’re going into the store to shop, have your smartphone. Price check, comparison shop … because sometimes with your smartphone, you can find that item cheaper elsewhere or cheaper online.”

And if you do find the item cheaper elsewhere, you might not even have to travel to another store. There’s a chance the first store you visited will match the price.

“The price-matching policies this year have expanded,” LoCastro said. “All these retailers are matching their competitors, and a lot of them are matching Amazon, which is just amazing. In the end, this is just going to benefit the consumer, because they are going to get the lowest price.”
