A black teenager was shot and killed by a Berkeley, Missouri, police officer on Tuesday afternoon, just a few miles from Ferguson, where Michael Brown was killed. According to police, the teenager pulled and pointed a gun at the officer.
While police did not identify the individual, a woman at the scene identified him as her 18-year-old son Antonio Martin. Martin was at a gas station with his friend.
Authorities said that an officer “conducting a routine business check” got out of his vehicle and approached them, at which point the teen pulled out a handgun. “Fearing for his life, the Berkeley officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him,” a release from the Berkeley police said. The girlfriend reportedly fled the scene. Read more at St. Louis Today.
