bloombergWhile Hurricane Sandy is a storm for the record books with 156 rescues by New York City and state police along with unprecedented flooding, Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday it is a first glimpse of things to come as sea levels rise and extreme weather becomes more frequent due to “Climate Change.”

Both Cuomo and Mayor Michael Bloomberg agree on the idea of “Climate Change.” Bloomberg is the chair of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group around the world committed to reducing carbon emissions in an effort to slow climate change.

“I don’t know how practical it is to put gates on PATH tubes and subway tunnels,” Bloomberg said in a separate press conference. “What is clear is that the storms we’ve experienced in the last year or so around this country and around the world are much more severe than before.”

Cuomo also said on Tuesday that he told President Obama that it seemed like “we have a 100-year flood every two years now.”
The scientific study reported, “Sea level rise and coastal flooding from storm surge are already affecting and will increasingly affect New York’s entire ocean and estuarine coastline from Montauk Point to the Battery and up the Hudson River to the federal dam at Troy. The likelihood that powerful storms will hit New York State’s coastline is very high, as is the associated threat to human life and coastal infrastructure. This vulnerability will increase in area and magnitude over time.”In a 2010 report titled “New York State Sea Level Rise Task Force Report to the Legislature” it includes the same kinds of warnings Cuomo and Bloomberg are now emphasizing to the public.

Cuomo emphasized that his ideas about “Climate Change” are not politically motivated.

“There has been a series of extreme weather incidents,” Cuomo said on Tuesday. “That is not a political statement, that is a factual statement … Anyone who says there’s not a dramatic change in weather patterns, I think is denying reality.”

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney has said little on the topic of global warming saying that he remains unconvinced about humanity’s role in it which is obvious since his proposed energy plan for the next four years is fossil fuel-heavy.

During the approach of Hurricane Sandy when numerous requests were made for the Romney campaign to comment about the implications of global warming they did not respond.

  1. It is known by frum Yidden that before Moshiach comes the weather will be wacky. But, Bloomberg is not a Maamin, so he doesn’t get it.

  2. The dor Hamabul also thought it was climate change. Mr. Mayor, wake up and smell the coffe. You championed immorality and used your misguided judgement to ban Bris Milah under the pretense of immorality that you championed. You should be ashamed of yourself. Look in the Torah for sources of cities destructions, immorality at the top, Sdom was gezel. WAKE UP

  4. You mean the Dor Haphlaga. They thought if they build towers up to the sky, they could hold up the rain from coming down! Same mentality of these 2 oeis vorf’s! They passed Toieva “Marriage”, legalized the killing of babies, regulated Bris Milah, etc…, and they think they can stop HKB”H wrath?! They just don’t get it!

  5. The cause of climate change might very well be spiritual as mentioned in the previous comments, but whatever the cause, people have to stop putting their heads in the sand and parroting RUsh LImbaugh and friends who deny that there is any change. There is change and we must deal with it spiritually, by dovening and doing teshuva, and also practically by facing the truth. The climate is changing and we cannot just build and live near the water as we have until now unless we build differently in ways that can withstand severe weather.

  6. Tsunamis are a result of climate change?? If tis is form people who believe in evolution, did we just compress 10 billion into 2 years? Nonsense!
