Bloomberg Gave Greenfield Staffers, Voter Information

greenfield-bloombergMaggie Haberman of the New York Post reports: Mayor Bloomberg pulled out all the stops to help now-Councilman-elect David Greenfield capture his seat in Brooklyn with a surprisingly lopsided win over rival Joe Lazar – including supplying staffers and voter file information, and making robocalls into the community.

Bloomberg gave Greenfield a campaign manager — Mark Botnick — and his team was closely involved in the race.

He supplied him with voter-target information — Team Bloomberg has long been lauded for its sophisticated micro-targeting since his 2005 campaign – and made two personal apperances in the community, in Bensonhurst and Boro Park.

He also lent his voice to robo calls used in the get-out-the-vote effort the day before the election, and on election day. And he was used in two mailers touted issues — good government and education.

The win was a clear victory for Bloomberg, especially after Greenfield got off to what some saw as a slow start at the very beginning of the special election, which was held yesterday to replace Simcha Felder (now a deputy comptroller) — over formidable opposition in Assemblyman Dov Hikind and Speaker Shelly Silver, who were on Team Lazar.

It also belied that Bloomberg’s standing in the ultra-Orthodox community, after some tension over parking ticket and other local issues, is quite strong. There’s no independent data for how he fared in that council district in 2009, but multiple sources said that after a lot of work in the area, he did extremely well.

  1. “It also belied that Bloomberg’s standing in the ultra-Orthodox community, after some tension over parking ticket and other local issues, is quite strong.”

There can be nothing further from the truth! We voted in Greenfield despite Bloomberg. Bloomberg is worthless to the Frum community. In my opinion, he hates the Frum community deep down.
P.S. By the way, someone please remind me how much Tzidaka from his personal wealth did Bloomberg give to our struggling Yeshiva’s?!
