The new rule was discussed last night at an asifa at the yeshiva graced by the roshei yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha. Rav Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva, and Rav Matisyahu Salomon, mashgiach, discussed the reason behind the new yeshiva legislation and the desire to protect the kedushah of the yeshiva and its talmidim.

A letter, which can be seen below, was handed out to talmidim to sign and affirm that they are not in possession of a phone that does not meet the yeshiva‘s new standards. The only phone that a talmid may own, the letter states, is a “Kosher” phone or a regular cell phone whose texting and internet capabilities are disabled.

The letter also states that “transgression of this takanah will cause me to lose zechusim I have in yeshiva (including, among others, seats in the botei medrash, my dormitory bed, and dining room use).”

The form must be handed in to the yeshiva prior to Yom Kippur for a talmid to maintain registration in the yeshiva for the upcoming winter zeman.
