The Sefer Torah is being dedicated to Beth Medrash Govoha by a close talmid of Rav Nosson Tzvi, whose goal is to unite these two legendary yeshivos in a display of kevod Shomayim.

The commencement of the writing of the Sefer Torah took place yesterday morning at the home of Rebbetzin Rischel Kotler, wife of Rav Shneur Kotler zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha.

Rav Eliezer Yehudah Finkel, son of Rav Nosson Tzvi and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Mir-Yerushalayim, made a special trip to attend the event. He was accompanied by his uncle, Rav Binyomin Carlebach.

Rav Eliezer Yehudah was welcomed by Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoah, who expressed what a great zechus it is for Beth Medrash Govoah to be able to take part in the writing of Sefer Torah l’illui nishmas the unforgettable rosh yeshiva, Rav Nosson Tzvi.

Both Rav Eliezer Yehudah and Rav Kotler insisted that the other one write the very first letter in the Sefer Torah, until Rav Kotler finally relented and wrote the letter Bais to begin the new Sefer with the assistance of the well-known sofer, Rav Weinberg of Bnei Brak, grandson of the Slonimer Rebbe zt”l. Rav Eliezer Yehudah Finkel then wrote a Reish, the second letter in the Torah.

Additional letters were written by roshei yeshiva and rabbonim, including Rav Dovid Schustal and Rav Yisroel Neuman, roshei yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha; Rav Binyomin Carlebach; Rav Yerachmiel Chossid; Rav Moshe Rabinowitz, rov of Khal Tiferes Shimon and menahel of Mesivta Keren Hatorah; Rav Yaakov Forchheimer, posek at Beth Medrash Govoha and rov of Khal Shearis Adas Yisroel; and others.

  1. I’m honored at such an event taking place… but, aren’t the two yeshivos well-connected already? Many Mir alumni learn in Lakewood, and return to the Mir in Yerushalyim once they get married.
May the Rosh Yeshiva -Rav N.Z. Finkel zt”l neshomah have an aliyah with this chashuv’e event.
