bmg-smallLakewood , NJ – For the first time in what it said to be some two decades, Beth Medrash Govoha, the largest yeshiva in North America, has raised the amount of the monthly kollel check it distributes to its yungeleit.

The yeshiva, located in the heart of the city of Lakewood, NJ, has thousands of talmidim, both yungeleit and bochurim. About half of the yungeleit of the yeshiva receive a monthly stipend.

The yeshiva has sought to add yungeleit to its payroll despite the exponential growth of the yeshiva’s budget, which stands in the tens of millions.

The increase in the kollel check is approximated to be $13 a month, for a total addition of half a million dollars to the yeshiva’s annual kollel budget.Beth Medrash Govoha was founded in 1943 by Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l, who passed away in 1962.
