rav-kanievsky-rav-shteinmanFollowing the direction of Maranan Verabbonon, the gedolei hador shlit”a, the American Olam Hayeshivos will not be participating in a protest rally to be held this Sunday in Manhattan against Israeli efforts to draft chareidim into the IDF.

A committee in the Knesset agreed on draft legislation early this week that sets quotas for the number of chareidi men expected to join the military and raises the possibility of criminal penalties for those who don’t cooperate.

Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman has expressed his view that, in this instance, holding protests is not the proper response to this gezeirah. “We do not have a novi to say what we must correct in order to cancel this difficult decree from us,” Rav Shteinman said. “We must examine our ways and investigate them, and perhaps it is because our hands have weakened from the Torah that in Heaven they are demanding from us about this.”

Rav Shteinman said that Yidden should “strengthen and increase the uninterrupted study of Torah without disturbances, especially on those days when there is a weakness in this regard… In addition, we must strengthen ourselves in tefillah and plead before the Master of the World to annul all of the decrees from upon us.”

Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky, commenting on Rav Shteinman’s statement, said that “All of the above words are clear and simple and this is the only way to cancel the decree.”

With the guidance of the gedolim, bnei hayeshivos will not join the Sunday rally, which was arranged by Satmar and will feature the participation of Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar and his brother, Rav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum of Satmar. Their chassidim, from Kiryas Yoel and Williamsburg respectively, are expected to make up the majority of the assemblage on Sunday, at 3 p.m., in Foley Square.

Bnei hayeshivos are going to spend the day engaged in limud haTorah in their respective yeshivos following the guidance of the gedolei hador shlit”a.

  1. May Rav Shteinman continue to lead us as meah ve’esrim.
I believe that Maran Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky is also against the holding of such a protest.

  2. Thank you Matzav for setting the record straight an this matter!
For the record I was in Williamsburg the other day and read the signs regarding the demonstration. They clearly stated that it was to protest the Zionist State, and not specifically the draft issue. Glad the Bnei Yeshivos have not fallen into the trap here!

  3. ??? ?? ???? ?????
the yeshiva world has taken a firm stance
    On something .
If the gedolai hador said no then we don’t go.
What people don’t understand is that we are not with them the organizers don’t look at us as equals.
Even if we go they still believe we are ?????? all because we don’t have their extreme shita. The last time rav shteinman was here tgey publicly humiliated him , by yelling at him that he is a tzioni. Is that who we ally with?!everyone can have his shita but you should know that the yeshiva world is not any less frum becsuse of not participating in the protest ,anti Zionisim is not our religion Torah is our religion. bh we follow tge advice of our rabbonim who are all big talmidei chachomim and need no haskama from anyone .
I would write so much ,much more about this subject but matzav would never publish it. GOOD SHABOSS
