Boro Park JCC to Highlight Community Contributions at Upcoming Tribute Breakfast


boro-park Brooklyn, NY – A most important event next Sunday will bring together statewide, citywide, and local elected officials, corporate and business leaders as well as the community leadership of the Boro Park community. All will gather at the Boro Park Jewish Community Council (BPJCC) Community Tribute Breakfast to be held next Sunday October 28th at the Lipschitz Halls in Boro Park.

“We are very fortunate that such a diverse group of individuals will be joining us at this event,” said Isaac Stern, JCC President. “The fact that they recognize the important social survives we provide the Boro Park Community gives us the wherewithal to continue”

Indeed the JCC has become a one stop shop providing social services to Boro Park and the surrounding communities. Working in close collaboration with the Met Council on Jewish Poverty, JCC operates a wide array of programs to assist clients in obtaining government and other benefits. Services include Career Counseling and Job Development, Crisis Intervention, Child and Family Health Plus, Food Stamps, Social Security, Immigration, Senior and Holocaust Survivor Programs and much more.

The breakfast will look back at the historic landscape of Boro Park, as well as focus on the uniqueness of this neighborhood and its bright future of continued growth and ongoing transformation as manifested through the diverse makeup of the newly installed JCC Board of Directors.

The event will pay tribute to a number of important individuals and institutions in Boro Park. City Councilman Domenic M. Recchia Jr., Chair of the City Council Finance Committee will receive the Legislative Leadership Award, to be presented by Councilman David Greenfield,in appreciation of his important role in assisting so many important community institutions. Maimonides Medical Center, an iconic institution for generations of Boro Park residents will be recognized as the premier source of health care in the community with a particular focus on The MMC Cancer Center. A much newer institution will be mark an important milestone as Investors Bank will be celebrated on the first anniversary of the opening of their Boro Park Branch with a presentation from New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Health Plus, represented by Jonathan Zalisky,which for years had provided free and low cost health insurance to our community members, will be presented with the Corporate Leadership Award by Congressman Jerry Nadler. Peter Rebenwurzel, who has served for nearly two decades as Zoning and Variance committee chairman of Community Board 12 in addition to his leadership in many community organizations, will be honored with the Community Service Award. The Distinguished Citizen of Boro Park award will be bestowed upon Mr. Avrohom (Alfred) Schonberger . Mr. Schonberger, president of the Viener kehilla and institutions, has indeed distinguished himself as a community leader who has been involved with causes too numerous to mention for nearly half a century. At the same time the breakfast will highlight the new young leadership of the community represented on the new JCC Board of Directors. Finally the breakfast will express long overdue Hakoras Hatov to Assistant Commissioner Fred Kreizman of the Mayors community Affairs Unit commemorating over 10 years of outstanding service to our community. Met Council CEO William Rapfogel will serve as Chairman of the program.

“Each of our honorees has played a most important role in contributing to the Boro Park community,” remarked JCC Executive Director Rabbi Yeruchim Silber. “We feel we are actually representing the entire community in bestowing these important awards on these unique individuals and institutions,” concluded Rabbi Silber.
