Ted Cruz has ended his presidential campaign, clearing Donald Trump’s path to the Republican nomination for the presidency.

The announcement was first made by the Texas senator’s campaign manager, Jeff Roe, this evening. Then, at 8:40 p.m., in a speech following the primary in Indiana, Cruz made the suspension of his campaign official, stating, “We are suspending our campaign…but not our fight for liberty.”

“From the beginning I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory,” Cruz said. “Tonight, I’m sorry to say that it appears that path has been foreclosed. With a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign.”

The announcement comes following a resounding victory by Trump in the GOP primary in Indiana.

Cruz and Ohio Governor Jon Kasich had been seeking to keep Trump from reaching 1,237 delegates, but that effort looks fruitless now after Trump’s strong Indiana showing.

Meanwhile, Kasich’s campaign says that the results in Indiana are “not going to alter” the candidate’s plan. “Our strategy has been and continues to be one that involves winning the nomination at an open convention,” the Kasich campaign said in a statement.

Trump will likely have to wait for June to secure the 1,237 delegates he needs to formally claim the nomination, but The Donald now appears unstoppable following his decisive victories in New York and other East Coast states, and now Indiana.

It is now full speed ahead for The Donald, who is within 200 delegates of the magic number needed to clinch the nomination. With his victory in Indiana, Trump now has at least 1,041 delegates. Cruz has 565 and Kasich has 152.

Cruz tried everything, including selecting Carly Fiorina as his running mate and forming a pact with John Kasich tha never gained any traction. His super PACs bought television ads and he went on all the Sunday shows. Nothing worked. The anti-Trump movement now has egg on its face as The Donald forges ahead, continuing his magical run in this presidential primary race.

  1. So I guess we’re going to have a Trump Clinton match up afterall. Not what this Country needs right now.

  2. Cruz would have been the best candidate. He is young and still has a chance to become a President. Meanwhile, he should keep up his principled constitutionalism. Let’s hope that Trump will succeed in stopping the onslaught of the fascist-socialists. If Hillary wins, the damage might be irreversible.

    • Yes, Cruz would have been the best candidate. As for irreversible damage, on the contrary. If Trump wins, the damage will be irreversible. The Republican party, which means the only organ for promoting conservative values in this country, will survive a Clinton presidency. It might survive a Trump candidacy, but the chances of it surviving a Trump presidency are close to nil.

That’s not to say I’ll be voting for Clinton. Unfortunately, I will be sitting this election out. And so will many other principled Republicans who will not be able to bring themselves to vote for someone as crass, vulgar, crude and lacking in values as Donald Trump.

Great thing about the general election? America will be free to choose between a big government NY liberal and a big government NY liberal!

  4. I will proudly vote Hillary and any and every thought out person should do the same! Hilary is Obama third term, Trump as president risks world war three. Very simple actually. #imwithher

  5. I will vote for the Donald, and he will turn out to be a great president, and then I’ll rub all your noses, you all corrupt New York liberals jews, and say to you “told you so”

  6. Did you people take your meds this morning – Hillary better than Trump?! Did it ever occur to you that all Hillary has to do is to bring in fifty million third world immigrants, provide welfare and voting rights for them, stuff the Supreme Court with her lib buddies – this country will never be the same, and the Conservatives and the Republican party will always be a minority.
